What is artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence has recently made headlines, with Elon Musk's OpenAI defeating experts in DOTA 2 and artificial intelligence reconstructing the periodic table in hours. It is difficult to spend a day on the internet without encountering at least one item on a new achievement that has been achieved in the area. In truth, artificial intelligence is no longer a distant imagination; it is now deeply embedded in our daily lives, with many internet programs and services we use, such as YouTube and Facebook. Because we regularly use applications and services that use AI to enhance our experience, it is important that we understand what artificial intelligence is and how it works.

Simply put, artificial intelligence means developing computer systems that are fully capable of performing a variety of functions often associated with human talents such as thinking, understanding, analyzing and so on. Consider OpenAI defeating experts in a game DOTA 2. It is a complicated game that asks you to adapt to the scenario as it develops. Consider setting a machine against a person in such a scenario where the possibilities are limitless. What makes this happen?

Humans have always defined everything for the computer and only given it to the computer, which can then perform a very limited number of tasks based on the information it was fed. In this case, a person defines all options. But with artificial intelligence, humans can simply create a system that can train themselves to describe additional possibilities that humans may not have considered.

Instead of showing a computer 10 photos of an apple and then asking it to select one of those apples from a pool of photos, you can enter all sorts of examples of an apple into a computer, regardless of size, shape or color, and " teach "it to recognize patterns and decide for itself whether something is an apple or not. When Facebook suggests tags on photos you post, it uses a similar method.

Artificial intelligence analyzes huge amounts of data, identifies patterns in the data, and then devises a method to use data to solve a specific problem. It can be extremely useful to increase efficiency and save time because it is much faster than humans and does not tire, it can add much more to existing intelligence by finding new patterns and solutions, it is much more accurate than humans, and one of the most important factors are that it learned and grew on its own - that is, it can learn itself from existing and new data.

Artificial intelligence has expanded rapidly and infiltrated a variety of industries such as human resources, finance, law, education, security and healthcare. This is mostly due to significant advances in technology (think the processing power required to analyze all this data) and sub-areas such as machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing.

There has been much discussion about the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence, especially the techniques of data collection and its security. But it is one of the most astonishing discoveries or advances that mankind has ever made, and it is revolutionizing all areas. We should certainly expect to see huge breakthroughs as they are more cost effective and efficient.
