Snapchat adds memories and Explore Layers to Snap Map.
Snapchat said earlier this year that Layer will be introduced to Snap Map, which improves the interactivity of the social platform. The first two layers of the program, Memories and Explore, are available now.
The snap map has been used to show individuals where their friends are currently located (if they have chosen to share their location), places of interest to visit, and which regions are most popular among Snapchatters. Now the Memory Store will show you past Snapchats that you sent from certain places - for example, if you explore your map and zoom in on Central Park, you can discover a photo you took last year of an adorable puppy in the park. Memories are private and only visible to the specific user - you can not see your friends' memories.
The Explore layer reshapes the heat map, which shows activity on the Snap map based on relative volume. You can view public photos and videos uploaded by Snapchat users worldwide by tapping selected locations.
Instead of putting a lot of information on a map, these layers are designed to make it easier for users to discover what they are looking for. Snaps partners, such as Ticketmaster and The Infatuation, also work with warehouses to show users where local events take place or which eateries are popular among Snapchats. This summer, the app also included a My Places feature, which told users about places to visit based on where they had been, where their friends had gone, and where other Snapchat users visited the most.
Users can access layers by going to Snap Map and pressing the button for a layer menu in the upper right corner of the map. Then they can switch between levels to find what they are looking for.
Snapchat users on iOS and Android can now use these features.
